Creating a Standardized Schema for Representing ISO/IEC 17025 Scope of Accreditations in XML Data

This paper discusses the progress made on a proof-of-concept effort to develop a standardized way of expressing a calibration laboratory’s capabilities and ISO/IEC 17025 Scope of Accreditation (SOA) in a XML format. The goal is to define a standardized schema for representing A2LA, NVLAP and other SOAs in a digital format. Once established, the metrology community can move from manually verifying uncertainties to a more automatable approach. This Metrology.NET® formated XML database can then be used to generate a traditional SOA document. It can also be used to safeguard against laboratories reporting uncertainties that don’t comply with their SOA.
